🤖 In 2019, Arvind Narayanan of Princeton University introduced "AI Snake Oil", highlighting overhyped AI claims. Along with Ph.D. student Sayash Kapoor, they expanded the discussion through a Substack and an upcoming book. They believe that while generative AI has legitimate advancements, there's still much hype. The pair call for more transparency in gen AI usage and technologists in policymaking. Both stress the need to be wary of inflated AI statistics and the importance of real-world AI testing. Narayanan remains optimistic about improving AI's representation and use.

🤖 According to WEF, Children increasingly use generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, often secretly from adults. This AI, which generates content like text or images, provides numerous benefits: aiding homework, fostering creativity, assisting children with disabilities, and more. However, AI also poses risks, such as disinformation, influencing children's cognitive and social development, privacy concerns, and potential biases. As generative AI may shape children's futures, stakeholders, including policymakers and tech companies, must urgently address these implications, ensuring responsible development and advocating for children's rights.

🗞️ LATEST NEWS & TRENDS

1️⃣ AI voices, generated using complex algorithms and deep learning, mimic human voices in singing or speaking. They're versatile, flexible, cost-effective, and foster creativity in music. Here's a guide to using AI voices: choose a generator, input lyrics, generate the track, download, import to a DAW, mix, and refine. AI voices can create original music or blend with human voices. Ethically, avoiding voice cloning and respecting copyright is crucial. Tools like Speechify Voice Over Studio offer high-quality AI musical art creation. Legalities vary for AI covers and deepfakes, so ethical use is vital.

2️⃣ Generative AI is revolutionizing agriculture by enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. It's transforming precision farming, crop optimization, and resource management. AI also aids in pest control, supply chain streamlining, adapting to climate change, and fostering advanced breeding programs. Furthermore, it empowers farmers through education and decision support tools. As this technology matures, its impact on farming will grow, positioning those who adopt it for success in global food production.

3️⃣ ChatGPT has impacted industries beyond tech, notably in marketing, product development, and service operations. A McKinsey report revealed 79% of workers use generative AI, with 22% regularly employing it for tasks. This AI helps hasten processes in 40% of organizations. The World Economic Forum predicts AI-induced 83 million job losses by 2027. However, AI can enhance worker efficiency, especially in drafting texts, personalized marketing, and identifying trends. For tech professionals, tools like CoPilot and Amazon CodeWhisperer offer coding assistance. The VentureBeat Job Board showcases roles in generative AI.

4️⃣ The push for AI regulation by tech CEOs is intensifying. OpenAI's Sam Altman and Microsoft's Brad Smith called for an agency to license and oversee AI efforts. Google's Sundar Pichai agreed to voluntary behavioral standards with the EU. While the industry agrees on the need for oversight, the challenge lies in implementation. AI's rapid development outpaces existing regulations. A risk-based, agile approach is proposed, focusing on effects, transparency, safety, and responsibility. The European Union is pioneering AI regulation, while the US faces decisions about the agency's structure and rule-making process to ensure effective oversight.

5️⃣ Generative AI (GenAI) is becoming integral to the XR (extended reality) area, notably enhancing the development and user experience. While genAI gains focus, companies like Microsoft aim to expand the industrial Metaverse by 2024. GenAI optimizes developmental processes in RT3D engines like Unreal, Unity, and Omniverse. NVIDIA's recent Omniverse update integrates genAI with OpenUSD, facilitating advanced XR development, including realistic facial animations from audio files. Omniverse now supports broader industry applications with Pixar's graphics format. NVIDIA's continual updates emphasize efficiency, user experience, and expansive XR developmental tools, positioning themselves as industry leaders in XR application design.

🗞️ INDUSTRY | FUNCTION

The manufacturing industry has been revolutionized by the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in generative AI design. This approach uses AI to create optimized product plans by inputting specific requirements and preferences. It utilizes technologies like 3D printing, CAD software, and machine learning algorithms to improve efficiency, quality, and innovation in manufacturing. Generative AI design benefits industries like aerospace and automotive, enhancing cybersecurity, quality assurance, cost estimation, sustainability, and automation. It reduces costs, accelerates design cycles, increases design variety, and boosts product performance. This integration of AI drives a sustainable and efficient future for manufacturing.

🗞️ RESOURCES

Generative AI and AI are powerful technologies transforming business. While both use machine learning, they differ in goals. Generative AI generates creative content like text, images, and music by mimicking patterns, while AI performs varied tasks, aiding decision-making and automating processes. Generative AI shines in creative fields, while AI enhances business operations and data analytics.

AI has evolved from concept to application, showcased by tools like ChatGPT. Expected to grow 37.3% by 2030, it's differentiated into Strong, Weak, and Super AI. The article distinguishes between Predictive AI (forecasting via data) and Generative AI (content generation). Both utilize machine learning but serve varying purposes and industries.

🗞️ WORK

Singaporean workers lead in adopting AI skills with the highest diffusion rate globally, as per LinkedIn's Future of Work report. From January 2016, the rate increased 20-fold, surpassing the global average of eight times. Other top countries include Finland, Ireland, India, and Canada. Singapore's growth in AI is attributed to its digital infrastructure, IP protection, and strong investment ecosystem. Generative AI has grown, with LinkedIn noting that skills like question-answering saw a 332% increase. Generative AI might replace some job functions, but soft skills remain crucial.
