🤖 An emerging discipline dubbed "organoid intelligence" aims to replicate the intricacies of the human brain, with the ambition of advancing artificial intelligence and beyond. It is shaking up the tech world by aiming to replace synthetic AI with real, biological neurons. This emerging field could drastically cut energy consumption, making a nuclear power plant unnecessary to match the human brain's 90 billion neuron connections. Companies like Final Spark are pioneering this space, working with live neurons to create "thinking computers." While still in its infancy, biocomputing offers a tantalizing glimpse into a future where machines could think and learn like us, but with a fraction of the energy footprint. Here is an article by Euronews on this topic.
🗞️ LATEST NEWS & TRENDS
1️⃣ Salesforce's recent survey reveals a mixed bag of excitement and caution among marketers about generative AI. A whopping 51% are already using it, and another 22% are on the brink. Yet, 39% admit they're not sure how to use it safely. While the tech promises to revolutionize tasks like content creation and data analysis, concerns about data quality and the need for human oversight loom large. Marketers also feel underprepared, with 70% saying their companies don't offer generative AI training. It's a landscape ripe for both innovation and education.

2️⃣ While billions are invested in AI, the debate on its impact on jobs continues. A new report by Randstad reveals a skills gap in AI proficiency. Although many are optimistic about AI's role in the job market, only a fraction have received AI training. The report, which surveyed 7,000 global workers, also highlighted a 20-fold increase in job postings requiring generative AI skills. In the U.S., excitement and concern about AI are almost evenly split, but adoption lags behind other countries. Gen Z workers are particularly keen on AI training, viewing it as a non-financial motivator.
3️⃣ Generative AI is on the brink of becoming a game-changer in the corporate world, especially in productivity apps. A KPMG study shows that 97% of U.S. executives expect significant impacts from this tech within a year or so. While it promises to revolutionize tasks from writing to data analysis, it's not without its pitfalls. Concerns about accuracy, bias, and legal issues are real. However, with strategic planning and responsible implementation, companies can harness AI's power for a more efficient and innovative work environment.
4️⃣ Generative AI adoption is still in the early stages. A mere 12% of IT decision-makers are planning to use OpenAI tech, despite the generative AI market's projected growth to $111 billion by 2030. The technology promises to revolutionize sectors like healthcare and logistics but comes with its own set of challenges, such as data concerns and ethical risks. Collaborations between startups and enterprises could be the golden ticket, making generative AI more accessible and spurring innovation. So, are you ready to join the generative AI revolution?
5️⃣ Walmart's deployment of a Generative AI app for 50,000 non-store employees highlights the growing business adoption of AI technologies. This trend is fueling a surge in demand for GPUs, specialized processors essential for training deep learning models. Nvidia, a dominant GPU supplier, is reaping financial benefits, but the industry is also grappling with chip scarcity. The debate now centers on whether this marks the peak or the dawn of generative AI's next developmental wave.
🗞️ INDUSTRY | FUNCTION
AI's transformative power isn't just for the office elite; it's a game-changer for the 80% of global workers who are deskless. While we've been busy automating emails and data analysis, we've overlooked those in retail, healthcare, and manufacturing. These folks are often on their feet, away from computers, and yet, they stand to gain massively from AI. Think about it: AI can handle the mundane, improve safety, and even boost job satisfaction for these workers. It's high time we include them in the AI revolution.
🗞️ RESOURCES
Mastercard's journey with generative AI is a fascinating tale of caution and innovation. JoAnn Stonier, the company's former Chief Data Officer, likens the technology to the complex, multi-layered film "Everything Everywhere All at Once." While Mastercard has been a pioneer in AI, it's still navigating the intricacies of generative AI. The company is focusing on ethical guidelines and governance, especially after the launch of ChatGPT. Despite the technology's unpredictable nature, Mastercard is optimistic about its potential, from internal productivity gains to customer-centric applications.
🗞️ WORK
Despite a booming interest in AI skills—evidenced by a 20-fold increase in job roles requiring them—only 13% of employees have received AI training in the past year. While 47% are optimistic about AI's role in the workplace, there's a glaring gap in training opportunities. Gen Z places a high value on learning and development, and 22% of employees are keen on AI training within the next year. The study also reveals geographical differences in AI adoption and training, with India leading the way. This highlights an urgent need for employers to bridge the training gap to future-proof their workforce.
