STORIES

CIOs and CTOs play a crucial role in leveraging the value of new technologies like generative AI. However, it's important to remember that we've experienced similar situations in the past with emerging technologies such as the internet, mobile, and social media. Despite numerous experiments and pilots, achieving significant business value proved challenging. We can still draw valuable lessons from those experiences, especially when it comes to moving beyond the pilot stage and achieving scalability. The current generative AI boom presents a distinctive chance for CIOs and CTOs to apply those lessons and guide the C-suite in transforming the potential of generative AI into sustainable business value.

David Juergens, a computational chemist from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, is poised to undertake the remarkable task of designing a protein that has eluded natural evolution for over 3 billion years.

During a video call, Juergens accesses a cloud-based iteration of an AI tool he co-created, known as RFdiffusion. These advanced neural networks, including others of its kind, are revolutionizing the field of protein engineering, previously characterized by its technical complexity and frequent lack of success, and making it accessible to the wider scientific community.

Vellum.ai announced the successful completion of a $5 million seed round. While the company refrained from disclosing the identity of its lead investor for this funding round, they did reveal that it was a multi-stage firm. Vellum.ai did, however, confirm the participation of notable entities such as Rebel Fund, Eastlink Capital, Pioneer Fund, Y Combinator, and several angel investors in this funding round, as shared with TechCrunch.

Amidst the endless discussions about job displacement and the potential demise of our reality, there is a pressing concern regarding generative AI—it has the ability to strip away our sense of wonder. Ordinary prompts can produce extraordinary images, but the true essence of extraordinariness is diminished.

Central banks are expected to widely use artificial intelligence for cost savings and efficiency. However, it raises questions about which tasks should be handled by AI or humans. Senior decision-makers need to understand the differences between AI and human advice and adapt policies and structures to maximize AI's benefits without compromising the organization's mission. This article discusses the details.

The EU AI Act found that the majority of AI models, including Google's PaLM 2 and OpenAI's GPT-4, do not adhere to its regulations, as revealed by a recent study conducted by Stanford.

The digital divide has evolved in stages:

Initial divide: Rich have technology, poor don't.

Second divide: Rich have technology and skills, poor have technology but lack skills.

Emerging divide: Rich have technology and assistance, poor have technology alone.

Google DeepMind, the AI division of Google, was formed after Google acquired Demis Hassabis' startup in 2014. Previously, DeepMind operated independently under Alphabet while Google had its own AI team. To strengthen its AI efforts and counter Microsoft's search advancements, Google integrated DeepMind into its core operations, resulting in the creation of Google DeepMind.

This paper is for you if you want to eliminate ChatGPT hallucinations and produce comprehensive and trustworthy answers complete with links to genuine, relevant scientific articles. To achieve this, the authors of the paper are introducing CORE-GPT.

— According to this paper, CORE-GPT contains more than 32 million full-text open-access scientific articles.
— The authors first demonstrate that GPT3.5 and GPT4 cannot be relied upon to provide references or citations for generated text.
— The authors then introduce CORE-GPT which delivers evidence-based answers to questions, along with citations and links to the cited papers, greatly increasing the trustworthiness of the answers and reducing the risk of hallucinations.
— According to the authors, CORE-GPT's performance was evaluated on a dataset of 100 questions covering the top 20 scientific domains in CORE, resulting in 100 answers and links to 500 relevant articles. The quality of the provided answers and the relevance of the links were assessed by two annotators.
— According to the authors, results demonstrate that CORE-GPT can produce comprehensive and trustworthy answers across the majority of scientific domains, complete with links to genuine, relevant scientific articles.
