🗞️ LATEST NEWS & TRENDS
1️⃣ HR professionals are increasingly using generative AI (GenAI) for tasks but are cautious about its application in performance management due to potential biases. Experts highlight GenAI's ability to summarize performance data, shift the focus from paperwork to meaningful conversations, assist in goal setting, and help employees prepare for reviews. However, concerns about bias and accuracy necessitate safeguards, training, and human oversight in its use.
2️⃣ At DEF CON 31, hackers will engage in the largest-ever red-teaming exercise against top AI models in the Generative Red Team Challenge. This event, aligned with Biden-Harris AI goals, aims to identify AI weaknesses and embedded harms through emulation and simulation. Multiple AI models will be tested, including GPT-4. The challenge includes diverse participants and prizes, fostering safety and security understanding at scale.
3️⃣ Jeli, an incident management company, has introduced AI-powered features similar to ChatGPT. This assists in summarizing ongoing incident conversations and generating narratives for better understanding. The AI uses OpenAI's technology, with human verification to ensure accuracy. The tool is in beta, aiming for user feedback-driven improvements.
4️⃣ Google's search approach is evolving. Historically, it directed users to external sites, but now it's hinting at using generative AI to produce search results. This change has raised concerns about the future of SEO. However, the shift might not end SEO but rather transform it. In this new landscape, brands can still be mentioned in AI-generated answers. To succeed, marketers should ensure their brands are frequently mentioned across the web, influencing AI-generated responses. Future marketing might focus on associating brands with specific topics to be featured in AI search results.
5️⃣ China's top internet firms, such as Baidu, ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba, are rapidly buying Nvidia chips crucial for AI systems, driven by concerns over potential US export bans.
Key points:
Orders totaling $5bn have been made for Nvidia's A800 processors, a lesser version of the A100 GPU due to past US export limits.
With AI's growing popularity, Nvidia GPUs are in high demand for their computational capabilities.
The US has set restrictions on specific investments into China's tech sectors, prompting Chinese companies to stockpile chips.
Companies like ByteDance and Alibaba are actively developing or integrating AI-powered services and have amassed significant chip inventories in anticipation of future needs.
The surge in demand has driven chip prices up by over 50%.
🗞️ INDUSTRY & FUNCTION
The report examines how generative AI is transforming manufacturing by driving innovation and efficiency. It explores its potential in various industries, given factors like the pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and supply chain disruptions. Generative AI enhances design, materials discovery, robotics, defect detection, decision-making, and more. The report identifies growth drivers, limitations, and opportunities, emphasizing its potential in predictive models, digital twins, and innovative design solutions.
🗞️ RESOURCES
Dynalang leverages diverse types of language to solve tasks by using language to predict the future via a multimodal world model. Agents need to understand human language for effective interaction. The goal is to create agents, like "Dynalang," that use language to predict future events and behaviors. Dynalang not only acts based on language but also uses it to predict future language, visuals, and rewards. It can be pretrained on text and video, enhancing its performance in diverse tasks, from grid worlds to navigating real homes.

🗞️ WORK
Generative AI's Impact on Jobs
Job Surge: AI-related job postings on Upwork increased by over 1,000% in Q2 2023.
New Roles: Positions include deep learning engineers, AI ethicists, and OpenAI Codex specialists.
Upskilling vs. Hiring: Experts recommend upskilling existing employees for AI integration. However, there's a noted lack of employees with AI skills in the U.K.
Benefits of Upskilling: It's cost-effective compared to hiring, but there's also a need for expert freelancers in specific scenarios.
Soft Skills: Essential when working with AI, including communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
AI Implementation: Thoughtful human involvement is vital for effective AI operations.
Future of AI: AI is advancing rapidly, with a push for thoughtful progress over perfection in its adoption.
