♨️ 1,000% Rise in Unionization among Knowledge Workers by 2028 🤔
🗞️ The Tech Issue | October 19, 2023
☕️ Greetings! It's Thursday, October 19th. Welcome to my daily dive into the AI landscape.
♨️ Gartner's top 10 strategic predictions for 2024 and beyond underscore the transformative potential of Generative AI (GenAI). The report suggests a seismic shift in the labor landscape, with a 1,000% rise in unionization rates among knowledge workers by 2028, largely fueled by GenAI adoption. The productivity value of AI is predicted to become a key economic indicator by 2027, as governments globally invest in AI-driven national plans. The report also warns of the escalating threat of malinformation, forecasting $30 billion in expenditures to combat it by 2028. By 2027, GenAI could cut modernization costs for legacy systems by 70%. Additionally, by 2028, smart robots are expected to outnumber frontline workers in sectors like manufacturing, retail, and logistics due to labor shortages.

🗞️ LATEST NEWS & TRENDS
1️⃣ Looking to kick your Google searches up a notch? If you're a Chrome user, you're in for a treat. Google has introduced a way to infuse generative AI into your search experience. It's called SGE (Search Generative Experience), and it's a game-changer. Instead of sifting through ad-cluttered search results, SGE gives you more precise answers, faster. It uses a powerful language model, 1,000 times mightier than BERT, making your searches more conversational and insightful. But keep in mind, that it's not foolproof; it can sometimes give incorrect or plagiarized results. Setting it up is simple—log in, enable it in Google Labs, and voilà—you're ready to search smarter!
2️⃣ Generative AI is buzzing in the robotics sector, and Nvidia is at the forefront, making significant strides. During a chat with Deepu Talla, Nvidia's VP of Embedded & Edge Computing, he highlighted how generative AI improves productivity by handling tasks like drafting emails, saving time and effort. Nvidia is about to make some big announcements, including the launch of their Isaac ROS 2.0 and Isaac Sim 2023 platforms. These platforms are designed to boost AI adoption among developers, with over 1.2 million already on board, including big names like AWS and Cisco. One standout feature is the Generative AI Playground for Jetson, allowing devs to play with open-source language models. It's all geared towards making AI more adaptable, user-friendly, and accurate.
3️⃣ Norway's got some AI buzz, with a 40% adoption rate, but it's also wrestling with a talent gap and tricky integration. Meanwhile, global CEOs are juggling not just tech but geopolitics and eco-issues. Despite some governance hiccups in Norway, ethics in AI is a hot topic worldwide. While most Norwegian companies lack a solid AI game plan, global CEOs are all in, linking AI to their financial strategies. In essence, Norway's clued in on AI's potential but needs to catch up in strategy and ethics, whereas global CEOs are already sprinting ahead on a more holistic track.

4️⃣ At the Sitecore DX 2023 event, tech leaders from Microsoft and Sitecore dug into the skyrocketing interest in generative AI. They pointed out that its rise is fueled by affordable computing power, innovation, and real-world problem-solving capabilities. Generative AI isn't just a shiny new toy; it's become a strategic asset for businesses, streamlining operations and spurring innovation. The talk emphasized the need for companies to nail down their core objectives before jumping into AI. Sitecore itself uses AI for things like efficient content creation and localization, and they're not stopping there. Microsoft highlighted a customer-centric approach, saying the future of generative AI will be shaped by what users actually need and want.

5️⃣ The Biden administration is keen on tech companies using watermarking as a part of its AI trustworthiness initiative. This is to ensure that AI-generated content is marked as such, which theoretically helps in curbing disinformation and deepfakes. Big players like Google, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft are onboard. However, experts question the efficacy of watermarking. They argue that it's not foolproof and can be easily manipulated or removed, especially with watermark removal tools already floating around in open and darknet markets. Despite this, watermarking is still considered one of the best existing options to tackle the problem of untrustworthy AI content.

🗞️ INDUSTRY | FUNCTION
Info-Tech Research Group has launched a comprehensive Generative AI Use Case Library tailored for the retail and wholesale sectors. The library is a treasure trove of insights into AI's transformative potential, offering guidance on demand forecasting, product recommendation, fraud detection, and more. While the rise of generative AI presents a plethora of opportunities for enhancing customer experience and optimizing operations, it also brings challenges for IT leaders in identifying the right starting points for AI integration. The library serves as an invaluable guide for organizations during the ideation phase, setting the stage for structured AI deployment.
🗞️ RESOURCES
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved over 70 years, with generative AI (GenAI) emerging as a transformative subset. GenAI's capacity to generate content is redefining human intelligence valuation in corporate settings and the digital sphere. The technology promises unparalleled gains in productivity and efficiency across sectors. Yet, it also presents risks and misconceptions, necessitating informed decision-making for businesses. This report aims to bridge the knowledge gap by delving into GenAI's intricacies, value propositions, and associated uncertainties. It employs a comprehensive approach, merging research, market insights, expert opinions, and interviews from key stakeholders in the AI ecosystem.

🗞️ WORK
AI's getting smarter, but guess what? Demand for human writers is still skyrocketing, says Freelancer.com. Their Q3 2023 report shows jobs in writing and content creation grew faster than in any other field. From rewriting manuals to marketing copy, small businesses are increasingly relying on freelancers to get the job done. Even as AI tools like ChatGPT become part of the workflow, freelancers are using them to level up their skills, not replace themselves. Matt Barrie, CEO of Freelancer.com, sums it up: it's not AI taking your job; it's the guy using AI to do it better.
